October 2022 - SAMSON launches new wheel drive

New powerful and easy-to-use SAMSON wheel drive helps slurry tankers to get through challenging terrain

SAMSON AGRO A/S, based in Viborg in Denmark, is launching a new wheel drive, SAMSON HPD Hydraulic Power Drive, for the SAMSON PG II Genesis slurry tanker range. The SAMSON HPD wheel drive reduces pressure, wheel slip and driving damage in the field when applying slurry in difficult conditions such as hilly terrain or wet soil conditions.

SAMSON wheel drive, as the name suggests, adds traction from tractor to tanker on one of the tanker’s wheel sets, making tractor and tanker one integrated articulated vehicle. On 2-axle slurry tankers, the front axle is the drive axle and on 3-axle tankers, the drive is on the centre axle.

Fully automatic system ensures correct application and gentle driving in the field

With SAMSON HPD, power is transmitted via a specially developed, simple and robust belt transmission (Power Drive), which is mounted in conjunction with the slurry tanker’s unloading pump and pulled by the tractor’s PTO.

The system has fully automatic power control, which makes the wheel drive easy to use and ensures comfort and correct application. The desired power is entered into the SAMSON SlurryMaster 8000 control system, after which the automatic system adjusts the speed of the wheel drive to the current forward speed and the power consumption according to the conditions.

The SAMSON HPD wheel drive can provide a power of 55 kW and up to 125 kW for 30 seconds in boost mode. The boost function means you are self-reliant if you get stuck, avoiding unnecessary downtime while working in the field – saving time and money and protecting the soil from driving damage.

“For precision nutrient application both before and after crop establishment, gentle movement is crucial for crop performance and continued soil fertility. During the development of SAMSON HPD, we have focused on developing a system that is both effective and easy for the driver to use. And we wanted a system that is easy to service and maintain. For example, the wheel drive has an integrated oil reservoir with an active and self-cleaning cooling unit to avoid overheating and downtime”, explainsNiels Hagemann Haubjerg, Product Manager for Slurry Technology at SAMSON AGRO.

Experts in wheel drive on slurry tankers

The combination of the wheel drive on the slurry tanker with the tyre pressure regulation system and the large, wide, low pressure tyres of the PG II Genesis underlines the excellent field performance of the SAMSON PG II Genesis. Both together and separately, these solutions offer the flexibility to go out as soon as early spring, when slurry storage tanks are often full but fields can be challenging to work. An area that SAMSON has focused on for decades.

“At SAMSON, we have almost 20 years of experience in wheel drive solutions on slurry tankers. For many years our range has included HWD wheel drive, which has certain limitations, however. With the SAMSON HPD wheel drive, we have developed a system that can reach even more of our users who want a more gentle movement in the field or want to extend the season of their slurry tanker, as it can also be fitted on PG II Genesis slurry tankers when they are delivered with the Ejector system, which is SAMSON’s unique and patented ejector vacuum pumping system that makes loading the slurry tanker quick and easy, even when working with demanding liquids with e.g. a high content of dry matter, concludes Niels Hagemann Haubjerg.

The SAMSON HPD wheel drive system will be launched for the 2022/23 season with sales for next season and will be available at all SAMSON dealers.

The solution will have its official world premiere at the SIMA exhibition in France 6-10 November 2022 together with SAMSON GROUPs 3 SIMA Innovations Awards nominations:

  • OPTI-SENSOR : first NPK analyser dedicated to manure on a solid spreaders
  • ALTA : automatic selection according to slope inclination
  • SAMSON GSC : more precision with section control
