SAMSON expands factory despite challenging market conditions

Posted on: March 12, 2024

SAMSON AGRO A/S is realising a major investment and expanding its factory facilities in Viborg. This involves a new production building located on a separate plot of land close to the company’s current factory. In connection with the expansion, the company is also investing in new high-tech production equipment. The first sod is cut and the new facilities are expected to be ready for use by the end of 2024.

Strategic investment

This is a significant factory investment for the company, which has continuously expanded, most recently in 2018. The factory facilities are being expanded this time by approximately 6,000 m2, including a machining department, assembly department, and staff facilities. This corresponds to an increase in production capacity of about 30%, which will secure the company an even better position to meet future market expectations.

It is the development and launch of a new product that has triggered the need for increased production capacity, the new SAMSON TSB trailing shoe boom.

“We have developed and tested this new product over the past few years. The first production of booms for the 2024 season was sold out quickly. And that’s because they meet the increasing demands and focus on sustainability and on reducing the environmental impact of agriculture. It’s fantastic that we have managed to get the green light for the construction project, so we can secure the future for SAMSON through this long-term investment. Especially in a fiscal year where the market situation is more challenging than before,” says the production manager at SAMSON AGRO A/S, Sune Bjerg.

The building specifications and design have been developed with professional advice from consulting engineers Viborg Ingeniørerne A/S and architect LAUSTSEN Tegnestue & Boligbyggeri. The total contract was awarded to Thomas Andersen A/S after a tender round. The construction project will focus on climate-friendly energy solutions; the new factory expansion will, among other things, be equipped with solar panels on the roof and heat pumps for heating.

About the SAMSON TSB Trailing Shoe Boom

The SAMSON TSB boom injects slurry directly into the soil while closely following the contours of the terrain, thanks to an active contour system that adjusts the boom’s wings, ensuring the trailing shoes are always in contact with the ground. This reduces nutrient evaporation and ensures a uniform application, even on uneven terrain. The boom also offers precise application with the ability to activate or deactivate individual sections of the boom, preventing overlap and overdosing of livestock manure.
